Brian and Abby are incredibly sweet, they originally booked me for their wedding and later found out they were expecting! I had the pleasure of being invited into their home to document little Henry! In-home newborn photography is among my favorite sessions because they are more comfortable and intimate – perfect for capturing authentic moments!
Capturing Baby Henry with Documentary Style Photography
Abby and Brian graciously welcomed me into their Catskill home, and we spent some time in the living room, admiring baby Henry and discussing their upcoming wedding. Despite having only communicated through phone calls and emails before, meeting them in person was delightful. The casual and light-hearted conversations we had allowed me to capture candid moments effortlessly, as it eliminated the apprehension that often comes with being photographed.
I always emphasize to clients that a baby doesn’t necessarily “cooperate” during a session – they’ll need to eat, cry, smile, and undergo diaper changes. These genuine moments, in my opinion, are the most precious! I differ from other photographers in that I don’t focus on swaddled poses or staged images. While those are undeniably beautiful and require considerable skill, my interest lies in documenting real, unscripted moments. It’s what I refer to as a more documentary approach to newborn photography.

Following our time in the living room, we moved upstairs to the nursery where Henry was fed, changed, and settled into his crib. The session captured a range of emotions – from cries to smiles, along with plenty of cuddles – making it a perfect representation of authentic and meaningful moments.
